The on-the-job learning periods at Perho and in partner companies
On-the-job learning periods are organized in external companies in the hotel and restaurant industry in Finland or abroad, at the Perho training restaurant or at the school’s student and staff restaurant Herkku.
The class that is taking the on-the-job learning period at Restaurant Perho
works under the supervision of its teachers and the restaurant staff both
on weekdays and on weekends according to a separate shift list. The shifts
take place between the hours 7 am – 12 midnight. During on-the-job
learning periods the groups do not usually have other lessons. However, sometimes
free elective studies have to be taken simultaneously with the on-the-job
learning period. In these cases, the student should agree on the work shifts
well in advance with the superior making the shift lists.
In the Restaurant Perho kitchen, it is the chef de cuisine who is in charge
of the shift lists and in the dining room, the shift manager. When Restaurant
Perho is open during holidays, the groups on their on-the-job learning period
work according to the shift list. The students will have the same amount
of days off at another time during the study period. During the Christmas
and summer holidays, outside staff is hired.
Schedules for the on-the-job learning
The students must participate in info meetings where general practical matters related to the on-the-job learning and applying for placements from external companies are discussed. At other times, additional information about these matters can be asked from the placement supervisor
