Appointments to the school nurse

The reception hours are posted on the notice boards, reception door and the home pages. Appointments to a General Practitioner-level doctor can be made through the school nurse. The school health care point gives guidance in all questions related to health care.
The services of the school nurse:
- health inspection at the beginning of the studies and at other times during the studies if necessary
- advice on nutrition, exercise, contraception, insomnia and stress management, and depression
- treatment of accidental injuries, such as cuts
- vaccination renewals
- blood pressure measurement
- removal of stitches
- finding out about possible illnesses and booking doctor’s appointments
Sudden cases of illness cannot be treated by the school’s own doctor. If necessary, the school nurse books an appointment for the student’s own health care center. Students may have to pay for some of the doctor’s appointments at the health care center. The student health care is provided by the city of Helsinki.
Appointments to the school doctor
The school’s doctor receives students twice a month. Appointments can be made through the school nurse.
Dental care
Dental care is a part of student health care so that all students living in Helsinki are entitled to dental care at the dentist of their own health care center. Reservations are made directly from the dentist. For more information, see www.hki.fi/palvelut.
Insurances and accidents
Students have been insured for study-related accidents occuring during term. In addition to the student insurance decreed by law, the school has insured the students with a group accident insurance that covers accidents also on the way from home to school and back. Accidents are reported to the school nurse immediately by the student.
Accidents are caused by technical and human errors. According to research, human errors are the cause of 80-90 % of accidents. This is why students must follow the school rules, the hygiene instructions, as well as follow the usage instructions of the machines and appliances with utmost care.
The accident insurance for the students at the Helsinki Culinary School Perho is in force during the unpaid on-the-job learning period and on the way from home to work and back. As is the case with all employees, the company who employs the student for the on-the-job learning period is responsible for any damages that the student might cause to the company or its customers.
