Student and staff restaurant Herkku
The first on-the-job learning periods are taken in the staff and student restaurant Herkku or at restaurant Perho. In all study programmes there are 28 – 50 credits of on-the-job learning.
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 7.30 am - 16.00 pm.
Meals at Herkku
The students have their meals at Herkku, on the lunch shift of their own group. The students taking the cooking course in the training kitchens have their meals in connection with their lessons. The students who are on-the-job learning in the teaching restaurant Perho have their meals during the work shift at a time determined by the teacher. The students receive one free meal on school days.
The lunch shifts
1. shift: 10.45 am - 11.00 am
2. shift: 11.00 am - 11.15 am
3. shift: 11.45 am - 12.00
4. shift 12.00 - 12.15 pm
5. shift 12.45 pm - 13.00 pm
6. shift 13.00 pm - 13.15 pm
The lunch shift lists are given for each period and they can be seen on the
notice boards. There can be changes made to the shifts, due for instance
to double lessons, study visits or exams taken in the training kitchens.
Table manners
The food is portioned by the student on the service line shift. Ask only for the amount you can eat. Do not eat in your outdoor clothes. Take off your hat or cap and leave your coat in the coatrack. Leave your place tidy for the next person. Return and sort your dishes and dispose of waste according to the given instructions. Don’t forget to say ‘thank you’. Good manners are a part of being professional.
Breakfast and afternoon coffee
If they wish, the students can buy breakfast and afternoon coffee at a low student price.
Special diets
On special diets for health or philosophical reasons must be discussed first with the school nurse on the first week of studies. If found necessary, the school nurse gives the student a diet card that must be shown to the staff of Herkku when choosing a special diet meal, including vegetarian meals.
