Group supervisor

 

The main responsibility for guiding of the students in their studies is with the group supervisors. Guiding hours have been marked on the schedules.

 

With the group supervisor, the student discusses matters having to do with the

 

  • curriculum
  • studying and learning
  • optional studies, accreditation
  • grades and participation
  • information about studying
  • Group supervisor agree with the group the methods of announce absences as well as how the group supervisor is mainly reached outside the lessons.  
  • Group supervisor contacts director or other student support group member if necessary.

 

 

Study advisor/International affairs co-ordinator

 

The Study advisor is responsible for the presentations and tours of Helsinki Culinary School Perho directed to the potential students and other persons interested. The Study advisor is responsible for the arrangements of the entry exam and interviews which are a part of the joint application procedure. Her duties are also to give instructions for housing matters, applications and tenancy agreements and other arrangements need to do in Haaga-Perho dormitory. In addition the Study advisor is a contact person in between school administration and teachers and student association. She is supporting the student association activities in situation the student association is planning leisure and group activities.

 

International Affairs co-ordinator is responsible for the interviews and admissions of the Restaurant Chef class (RC), of the info meetings during studies, schedules, on-the-job learning placements, students’ travel arrangements, informing students of financial support and insurance issues, handling reports and communications in case of problems occurring during the international on-the-job learning placement. In addition, the International Affairs co-ordinator is informing and organizating of the student exchange programme of the Leonardo project.

Remedial teaching

 

During the orientation weeks students are examined in Finnish, mathematics and Swedish. On the basis of the exams, the students are guided into obligatory supporting courses before beginning the actual studies.

 

Student is entitled to have remedial teaching in all subjects if the absence at school due to illness or other accepted reason or the student has difficulties in learning and after teachers evaluation is showing the student is in need of remedial teaching. The student discuss with the teacher the form and content of the remedial teaching.

 

The remedial teaching of Professional studies, as Food production and restaurant service, coordinating are responsible for the head of departments. The subject teacher is informing the head of departments if a student is in need of remedial teaching. Sometimes the remedial teaching is appropriate to give at restaurant Perho and in this case the teacher is negotiating the form and content of remedial teaching with the superior at Restaurant Perho.

 

Theoretical and professional subject teachers agree with a student and the special needs teacher for the appropriate method of support.

School social worker

The School social worker is supporting students schooling. First the Schol social worker asses the students situation on grounds of private discussions, make new appointment if needer of or guide the students among other social support service. Student can discuss with the School social worker as following matters:

  • social problems with own family, friends or with relationship
  • anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties
  • difficulties with studies such as school motivation, drop out, if the student has to make other choice of trade

Student support group

 

The student support group concentrates on supporting students so that they finish their degrees and find employment. The student support team makes decisions and finds solutions in problematic situations, with regard to the student’s own strengths and wishes. The team’s work includes preventive work in the form of supportive measures: personal discussions, remedial teaching and special needs education.
