Being international is a part of the learning process
Being
international is a part of the learning process. The school supports the
students’ growing international skills by offering studies abroad
for individual students and organizing international on-the-job learning
periods for whole study groups. The student can choose the most suitable
destination from among Perho’s many international partners. With
the help of these professional skills the student will learn to live and
work in a multicultural environment and find employment in the international
job market.
Projects, competitions abroad, the course contents and visiting experts
from other countries increase the students’ knowledge of foreign
cultures.
Schedules for the international studies
Information about on-the-job learning abroad and the schedules for the student exchange are available from the International Affairs Co-ordinator Johanna Korhonen, tel. (09) 5807 8640, johanna.korhonen(a)perho.fi.
On-the-job learning for Restaurant Cook students
All Finnish students in the Restaurant Cook study programme take an on-the-job learning period (20 credits) abroad. Correspondingly, the foreign students in the group take their on-the-job learning period in Finland. The first study year consists of studies at Helsinki Culinary School Perho, after which the students leave for the foreign on-the-job learning period at the beginning of June. The students return to Perho at the end of October.
The info meetings for the on-the-job learning periods abroad are organized on the group supervisor’s lessons on a separately announced date.
On-the-job learning for general upper secondary school based waiter/waitresses and hotel receptionists
Some of the students in the group will be selected in the autumn of the first study year to take part on an on-the-job learning period abroad. An examination/interview is organized, based on which the students are selected. The time for the on-the-job learning period is after the first study year, from the beginning of June until the end of October.
The info meetings are organized on the group supervisor’s lessons, on separately announced date.
International on-the-job learning for final year students
The entry requirements for the international Restaurant Cook study programme are general upper secondary school qualifications/matriculation examination, sufficient command of English, and for foreign applicants, sufficient level of previous all-round education. There are 20 student places. The tuition is in English. An on-the-job learning period of 20 credits is included in the qualification and it is taken either in Finland or abroad.
Tutoring lessons for individual students are a part of the group’s study schedule.
Helsinki Culinary School Perho applies for EU funding for student exchange projects and participates in the shared projects of the OTAVA network. The OTAVA network is a co-operative network of six Finnish hotel and restaurant schools.
Students are informed separately about the projects.
